The job market in Australia is on the rise!

Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, the job market in Australia is on the rise. The recent lockdown restrictions meant that businesses were slowing on hiring new staff. However, there seems to have been a swift 180, even for industries that were hit hardest.

Let’s start with the Australian Job Market, before we delve into Western Australia specifically.

According to SEEK marketplace data. Aug 17 – Sep 6, the industries with the highest job growth in Australia are:

Support Officer 67.6% 

Contracts Administrator 12.9%

Hairdresser 4%

Dental Assistant 3.8%

Estimator 3.8%

Project Officer 2.4%

“The latest SEEK employment data shows that in the fortnight ended 23 August 2020, job ad volumes across Australia were 71% of pre-COVID levels (February 2020).” 

There are two states to have more jobs on the market than before COVID 19, the Northern Territory and Tasmania. South Australia and Western Australia aren’t far behind reaching pre-COVID levels, with 96% and 99% respectively. Good news for the West Australian job market!

The industries with the highest job growth in Western Australia are:

Human Resources and Recruitment 8.9%

Government and Defence 7.6%

Engineering 3.3%

Banking and Financial Services 2.3%

Real Estate and Property 0.5%
